i have a bichon she is 3 years old, its the second one ive had, i live alone and took early retierment in 2000, ive read about the bichon on here it fits molly to a tea, allthough she has never growld or shown any agresion to any one or any dog,she is very demanding and never still, she is very pratective of me hates anyone sitting next to me she gets inbetween, so very hard to house train, hates rain snow and the cold, has a mind of her own and does try to be in charge, eats my cigs if i dont put them high up she is like a baby very demanding of me, but i like that it makes me feel needed again love the welcome i get when ive been out wouldnt be without her love her so much shes my baby molly xx

Having rehomed 2 Bichon brothers they have settled in very well. They are so loving and well behaved, get on well with our Sheltie and our cats. They love the daily brushing i give them and walkies too. Best desision we made to have 2 rescue boys :-)

Our little Louis died one yr ago on MARCH 3RD 2011.
He was the light in our life and my shit-zhu Benji missed louis too.
My daughter chrissie was distraught as he was bought for her 16 and when she moved out he was so settled with his 2nd mummy me as he didnt like change at all.
He was a funny, determined, sometimes naughty and intelligent little boy but he was so loved and missed.
That fateful morning was awful,we thought he had Arthritis and was coming home but he had a tumour.
RIP our louis, gone but not forgotten.
Loved by us all.

I have recently acquired a gorgeous little boy Bichon from the Rescue and cannot thank you enough for bringing us together. He is settling in really well and we have so much fun playing and walking, better than any gym membership!

Its been two years today since my beloved Max died and I still miss you so much. A day never goes by without thinking of you and wishing you were still here. Your brother, Bertie Buttons, still misses you and sends you loads of wags and licks. Sleep tight my beautiful boy. Love you forever.xxx

I have a lovely wee Bichon called Rebus, he's 3yrs old and i rehomed him when he was 10months old. I have to confess i had no intention of getting one of these wee dogs but i had been looking for another dog and this wee guy bounced into my life. His absolute best freind in the whole world is Meg my 9yr old Border Collie who i have had since she was 8weeks old. When Rebus arrived it was love at first sight for all of us. I've really enjoued reading through this site and can see many of the traits in my wee boy but i also have to say there are many ihave never seen. I do work fulltime and in the summer months the doggies stay at home and as long as Meg is there Rebus is perfectly happy (i've videoed them a few times)- he is full of fun and mischief and such a loving wee dog, he doesn't get jealous and responds well to the rules of the house...would love to give another Bichon a home unfortunatley there's no point in me filling an application form as i won't be considered because i work...never mind will see what bundle of joy runs into my life next :-)

I have five rescue bichons two from bichon frise rescue. They are great little dogs and are very affectionate. Sleep om my bed and I would have it no other way. They never fight and seem to greet other bichons they meet in the park. Thank you for being there to help the fluffs in need.

What a wonderful website! I have owned Bichons since 1989 - my first two wonderful boys lived to be 15, and my little rescue girl who really had not been cared for properly for her first 7 years despite lots of illness went on to be 12. I cant believe my current boys are now 7! But back to your website - I have just read it thinking "yep that's absolutely true and gosh so all bichons are like this!". Well done to you - it is so refreshing to see a site about Bichons written by people that really do understand them and love them as much as me!
I urge all potential owners of a bichon to really concentrate hard on what you have said - they are not the easiest of dogs but they are utterly wonderful if you get it right!
Well done to you for such a fantastic account of bichon life. XX

My little boy is Geordie, he is 10 years old and absolutely is the love of mine and my husbands life. He is a beautiful little boy, he tolarates our grand children, as do we, to say he is spoiled is an understatement, he has never had a tin of dog food in his life with us, we have had him since he was 8 weeks old he has fresh meat and rice cooked every night for his dinner and he has never been in kennel's and if he can't come where we go, we don't go, simple as that. He is our baby boy and
part of our family.

Your site made my heart melt.Oh how we love our 3 year old Benji, he is our child and the centre of life in our house.
We could not love him more and he returns it in full.
I think we will be looking for a companion for him soon and will come to you first.
All the best and thanks for the site.

A few months ago we had to decide what would be best for Roxie. After a long hard think we knew we couldnt keep her due to change in circumstances but after having her since she was 9weeks and for over a year she had become part of the family. We all loved her so much and my lil girl had formed an amazing bond with her so letting her go was the hardest choice in my life but i knew deep down it was for he best. Bichon rescue were great and really helpful. The pain of letting Roxie go was unbearable it was like losing a part of the family and we still miss her so much but i know she'lll be having a great time and be re-homed into the perfect home for her. Thank you to Bichon rescue for making this process a little easier and more comforting for both me and my daughter and Roxie :)

Thank you all at Bichon Frise Rescue for giving us our two lovely boys, when we lost our Casper a couple of months ago we never thought we could love another Bichon as much as him, but as soon we saw our two little boys we love them just as much. We have had a great week getting to know them and them us.We feel as if our family is whole again.
Thank you once more from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you to Bichon Rescue for re-homing our little boys - to a loving family after a change in our circumstances at home. It was the hardest decision we have ever made and we miss them both dearly, and at this moment are struggling with the loss, but we know they will be loved to bits in their new home and given the time, love and attention they deserve. If their new family read this, please spoil the boys. They are such loving boys and deserve the best life and thanks for looking after them for us when we could no longer give them enough time. Give them both a kiss from us. x

I just wanted to say how happy this site has made my parents.
After loosing their little boy Casper, they both felt that something was missing in their lives. Just a few days ago they saw two little boys that were in need of a home and today they have joined our family.
I haven't met them yet but i'm sure they will fit in perfectly. One thing I do KNOW is that they will both be loved to bits and wont want for anything.

Hello, It's been just over three weeks since we adopted a little ray of sunshine called Candy and I can not begin to explain how delighted we all are. We already had a Bichon Buster, who I adopted from Council Kennels a year ago. I have been a dog lover and owner most of my life, having lost our dear little cross breed Maizie 6 years ago it took me such a long time to think about having another dog. Then Buster bounded into our lives and everything changed. I have never met a breed of dog like the Bichon, so full of love and loyalty. Now we have our darling Candy too who is equally as loving and full of fun and affection. As a family we are totally smitten both dogs are marvelous with our 8 year son and our grown up children dote on them. Candy has settled in fantastically well and is now Buster's constant companion. I would like to say how grateful we are to Bichon Frise Rescue especially John Shaw for all his kindness, experience and dedication. I would tell anyone considering buying a dog what a wonderful breed the little Bichon Frise is, they are a small dog with a great big heart. Adopting our little friends has brought us so much happiness.

From the day we married in 1969 we have had fostered dogs and bred boxers. In 1998 we got our first Bichon (Oscar).Oscar came from the Bichon Frise Rescue UK. He was everyone's friend and went everywhere with us but soon became our "son's dog" In February 2004 we sold our house in Milton Keynes and moved to Valencia in Spain. Of course Oscar came too! By 2007 Barry & myself had to return to the UK to top up our funds and Oscar had to stay with our son Craig. He was ruined! He went eeverywhere with Craig and as Craig put it, he was his "soul mate." Oscar always managed to pick the best spot on the bed...every night! Then in March last year, we received a message from Craig that we were dreading. Oscar had been unwell for a few months, losing his balance, dropping down but then getting up and back to normal. However, this particular evening we each sensed things were not good. At 5.00am the next morning we received a call from a very upset Craig to tell us Oscar had gone. He passed away that night. Because he was restless Craig had taken him downstairs and put him on the couch in the lounge but the next morning Craig found him lying on a pile of Craig's laundry in the utility room. Oscar now has his resting place in the sun. I never thought that one little dog could give three grown ups so much pleasure. We let "sleeping dogs lie" for four months but then enquired about another Bichon , once again from the Bichon Rescue and a short while later, Marley appeared. When Marley arrived he was just short of three months old. He is now eleven months old. He will never replace Oscar and that was never the intention but he already "owns" the house. He is not perfect, but then who is but he has already given us a great deal of pleasure. Thank you to Bichon Frise Rescue UK and thank you Oscar and Marley.

On the 19th November 1998 I became the proud owner of two 11 week old bichon brothers called Max and Bertie. They were an absolute delight and gave me unconditional love and pleasure. I never once regretted having them. Sadly on the 21st October 2009 my beloved Max died. He was always the stronger of the two. Bertie was the weaker suffering from diabetes, cushings and a heart murmur. Anyway on the morning of the 21st October I got up to find Max lying on my kitchen floor obviously feeling poorly. I knelt down and said "whats wrong Max not feeling well". He looked up at me, gave a couple of gasps and died. I cannot say what a shock this was. I felt as though I had lost a child. I still cry most days even now, although it has been 15 months since he died. I have had dogs all my life but I have never had such adorable dogs as bichons. Luckily I still have my beautiful Bertie Buttons. Its two years since all his problems started but even though I have to inject him twice a day and give him three lots of tablets not once has he snapped or tried to resist his medication. I would just like to say that if anyone is thinking of getting a bichon its will be the best decision they ever make. Thank you for your wonderful site. My beloved Max is in your Light of Life Memorials and it gives me great comfort to look at him there and remember all the happy times we had together. I know that one day in the not too distant future Bertie Buttons will join him there but at least they will be together again.

I got my perfect little girl Tilly in November 2008. She was my little god send. she went absolutley everywere with me even to work. She was the most qentle perfect little pooch but saddley i lost her on the 2nd of june 2010 a month before her 3rd birthday. She had bladder stones which vets did not pick up on she was weeing blood and they kept prescribing her medication for cysttis. She then began to lose weight so i took her to another vets and within 3days they found out she had bladder stones over 1cm big and had to have an opperation to remove them. 10 days after her opperation she passed away at the vets over night as she was being kept in as she was dehydrated and would not eat or drink. I did not get the chance to holdbut her or be there with her when she died which broke my heart to think she passed away on her own. I collected Tilly from the vets and buried her. I have never felt loss like this i cried for 2weeks constantly. Then I saw an advert for a bichon and now have Dolly who is a little minx. She is named after tilly as tillys show name was princess dolly dot. When i recieved Dollys kc papers I found out that Tillys dad is Dollys grandad so I still have alittle peice of Tilly with me. Dolly can never replace Tilly but I love her just as much. Sweet dreams Tilly baby girl always in my heart xxx xxx

What a wonderful site! At the moment I have an almost eleven year old (20th nov is his birthday) Bichon called Henry sitting next to me on the settee who we have owned for about four months. However I have known him when he was a puppy with his little brown ears!! Henry was my Grandma's dog until recently when she found that she couldn't look after him any more. He only used to have about one walk a week, if he was lucky, but he is now settling into a good routine of two or three walks a day and a good family walk once a week. I think this website is lovely, and I am pleased to see how rehoming etc. can be such a success.

It was with a very heavy heart that we realised our lifestyle did not suit Freddy. We did not want him going just anywhere and the Bichon Frise rescue have been marvellous. Special thanks to Barbara and although Freddy is sadly missed, we feel happier knowing he is living in a more suitable home having lots of fun and a doggy friend as well. We know it was the right thing for Freddy and feel everyone involved work so hard to help these wonderful dogs

I have never owned a dog before although my mum always has dogs when I was a child. Three years ago, having gone part time at work I decided to buy a puppy and not knowing what type of dog to have, my neice suggested a bichon. In truth, I had never heard of the breed. I did some research and my home work and decided this was the dog for me. Buddy is now three years old and he will never know what he has brought with him. My empty house became a home again. He is a loving bunddle of joy and I adore him. I am thinking of having another one and will definately contact Bichon Rescue when the time comes. Keep up the brilliant work you all do.

itis with great sorrow and sadness i say that i lost my companion and great friend of 13 years AMY,from the moment igot her as a pupshe went every where with me ( i am a lorry driver)she was great company and enjoyed trips around the country, she didnt have a totally problem free life though, bless her, amy was 2 when she was diagnosed with bladder stones, not to be thwarted at the vets, she changed the type of stones just to upset everyone looking after her, amy was no stranger to the operating table, dispite special diet and various pills and potions she was opened up 9 times in 7 years to remove the stones, then in total indierence to me and the vet she then wentdown with pancreaites, and i almost lost her i was told after a week in the vets she hasnot got long so i took her home with me for a last weekend together, low and behold come monday morning she was like a new dog again she had turned the corner and bounced back to her normal bright self again, alas, inside her was tobe the dreaded diabeties, this she suffered from for her remainding years, yet she would always come to me when it was 7.30 for her twice daily jabs of insulin and not once did she complain of it. sadly as time went on and she got older she went blind yet as usual with amy no problems arose in fact she could then hear a piece of chicken getting cut up a mile away, about 2years after that happened she got an ulcer behind her right eye and thatrequired her to have the eye removed ,with the vets assurance that she would be fine with the anastesia she went ahead ,and again amy didnt let this bother her at all, she was already used to me telling her Going up as we reached a kerb or Going down as we stept down she coped very well indead as long as i left nothing in her way and didnt move furniture to a different location she could find her way round the house and garden and you wouldnt know she was blind at all she would listen and smell so as not to miss anything, sadly she started to go deaf andstarted to go round and round trying to get her bearings as she could no longer hear me and just over a week ago now while on her morning walk she collapsed. the vet said she has had a stroke and a bad one at that, so with great saddnes i said to amy its time you went to the great dog run in the sky toromp and play with all your friends that have passed before you and even then her tail was up and wagging like crazy, i held her close to me as she went to sleep for the last time, now she is burried in my garden under her favorite shady bush. its only been a week and i miss her so much i still listen for the jingle of her collar and tags alas as i write this the tears are flowing again i have no shame admitting that.she just could not have won the last fight of her ilness, now as i sit watching the bush move in the breeze,a man alone again. Thank you amy for 13 years of wonderfull company. untill we meet again, daddy misses you.xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dougal came to me in summer 1995. he had been rehomed three times, and each "owner" said he was vicious and should be put down. Bichon Rescue sent an animal behaviourist, who thought he could be redeemed. He was! On first grooming I nearly wept, seeing the scars on his back. He'd been used as "bait" to start dog fights. He stayed with me for 11 years and was my best friend. Although I now have another dog Dougal still comes to visit me; sometimes I'm aware of a presence hovering over my right shoulder.I know he will be there to greet me when my time comes: "What Larks!" Now we can have a proper talk.
The brightest and most intelligent dog I have ever known.

Two years ago I approached Bichon Rescue to find a small dog to suit our family. Having had Inca a 4 year old female, nearly 2 years she has changed our lives. What a wonderful, beautiful, dear hearted dog. She is so loved and very much part of the family. We have made numerous friends from just walking her. Inca is a very special dog indeed, i'm so glad she came to us from you.

We lost our darling little girl Misty on 22nd June. We'd had her for 13 wonderful years and she was everything a Bichon Frise should be and far far more to us.

We're now Bichon-less and baby-less for a while but I've looked at the photo gallery and smiled for the first time since that dreadful day.

Suddenly the daft memories are sweet again and it's good to see from others photos why we adored her so. Thanks Bichon Rescue, keep up the good work!

I recently lost the last of my 4 Bichons, Evie was 15 1/2 years old and went down hill very quickly. She suffered chronic renal failure, as did my other Bichons. I love Bichons and maybe in the near future i will consider getting another one or two. At the moment i'm still grieving for my little Evie. I like to visit this site and read about all the happy endings (sometimes, not so happy) keep up the good work, you do a fantastic job at the rescue centre.

Due to ill helath, I found myself having to make the most heartbreaking decision of my life, and that was to rehome my Bichon I never know about a rescue until my vet told me about your charity.Making the phonecall to Bichon Rescue was the most difficult thing I ever had to do,but after speaking to one of the lovely volunteers I was soon put at ease that my little Bichon would be placed in a home that would be the best for my boy. What was a horrendous time for me after being so ill and wanting the best for my boy was made much easier by the help and patience within the charity and I now know he is doing well in his new home and would like to thank Bichon Rescue for showing compassion and care for my dog and myself, I know I have made the right decsision as I am now totally housebound and it just wasn\'t the life for my Bichon. A truly wonderful society with kind volunteers who do the very best they can to help you, even if you are unsure its the right decision.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I would just like to thank the lady in rescue that gave me some great advice about my Bichon , we have been struggling with Bertys seperation anxiety for quite some time and the advice we were given has really helped us,thank you so much and well done to all the helpers with your charity, I have really enjoyed reading the site and looking at the photos and reading "Mummys Angel", I think all bichon owners can relate to angel!

We took Charlie as a rescue about five years ago. He has been the most amazing companion for us and accompanied us on many camping and caravan holidays. Sadly, he departed this life on Tuesday, 22nd March. He has left a big hole in our lives and will forever be remembered as a very special little man. He was 15 years old and developed Cushings Syndrome, which we spotted too late - sadly. Please all say a prayer for our baby and hug your Bichon. xx

Dear Bichon Frise Rescue

We thought we would drop you a line to let you know how well Daisy is doing at her new home we adopted her in Dec 2009 and she was a little under weight, the last few months she has come on leaps and bounds and is our pride and joy. She brings us so much happiness and laughter that we don\'t know how we coped without her. She loves long walks and playing ball and follows us everywhere we go and loves being the centre of attention!!

We just wanted to say Thank you for getting us in touch with Daisy

BFR do a fabulous job of rehoming the many sad doggies that come through their system.

We would always implore anyone looking for a doggy to seek a rescue first , puppies are not pups for long and demand alot of attention, a rescue dog is assessed before it goes out and will love you so much.
Never be tempted to buy from a pet store. Rescue doggies really do need you more !

From: Margaret Grant (Sat 12th Dec 2009 at 22:48)
What a lovely site. The Bichons are my favourite breed. I had 2 wee girls (sisters) Bonnie and Dawn but sadly they passed away at the age of 12 and 12 and 1/2. I have a wee boy now called Rory and apart from him lifting his leg in the house he is a good companion and very lovable like the wee girls were.

To all the people involved in the wonderful work of rehoming Bichon's via Bichon Frise Rescue- Thank You from myself and my family.
I have also received my rescue calendar, its wonderful to see the many Bichons who look so happy, and I wish you success in raising money for Henrys Fund.
Merry Christmas to all the volunteers involved and thank you for your commitment and support.

Just ordered your calendar in memory of of our dear Chester. A month since he passed away and we are still heartbroken. We had 11 wonderful years with him - Christmas won't be the same without him guarding the presents under the tree. We hope your calendar raises lots of cash to help Bichons not as fortunate to have as much love and care as Chestie did.

Fantastic site and so informative. Pity I live in N. Ireland. Would love to run similar for Yorkies. This breed is another I would consider, and well done to those who have adopted, fostered etc. I too am a rescurer, having got my first Yorkie after it was dumped out on our mountain to defend for itself. How can people be so cruel?

Two years ago after the death of my second Standard Poodle at the age of 15, and after trying to live without a dog after 30 years, I decided to try a different breed, a smaller dog but one which did not shed as my husband has asthma. I looked at the Bichon website for weeks and, because I wanted two bitches almost gave up, until one late afternoon, just before I closed down, I decided to have another look and there they were mother and daughter aged 9 and 7. My son drove me down to Devon from Hertfordshire and I have never looked back. They are a sheer delight and when we walk them in the park or street they tend to make people smile appreciatively. They are gentle and sweet and we couldn't be happier together. They are certainly a breed I would recommend to everyone, old and young as they tolerate children and even cats!

My Mum has two Bichons from your rescue, and the boys have given her life back after losing my Dad. The volunteers of Bichon Frise Rescue are the best and we have both loved looking at all the beautiful dogs in your gallery, and shed a tear on the memorial page, these two guys here are our babies and life wouldn't be the same without them. Thank you Bichon Frise Rescue!
